Travel Plans

I am excited to say that at the end of August I will be heading to Malta! My boyfriend's entire family lives there...and he hasn't had the chance to go in 10 years. We will be heading there for 2 weeks including a short trip to the Greek Islands. I also just decided that rather than hopping straight into the job hunt I will take the opportunity to do some traveling from Oct-Dec. I plan on starting in Northern Australia and heading down the Eastern coastline finishing in Sydney. We will then head over to NZ for another 3 weeks. Cannot wait.

JustGive

Last week was the Michael "Pinball" Clemons Foundation awareness campaign "Just Give". During my co-op placement at MPCF this was an initiative that I spent a lot of my time working on. Just Give is a week-long kindness campaign. Our goal was to not solicite or ask for anything, just simply generate awareness on giving and giving anything you can at that. I managed to work around my school schedule and volunteer on both Monday and Tuesday mornings. I met with 50 other volunteers matching in dress. On Monday I held doors open for the daily commuters in the path and simply smiled and said good morning. This was met with a lot of confused "uhh thank-yous". The next morning I came back to the path and held a message of hope. This was extremely powerful. People came to me from all angles asking to take a picture, or telling me I made their morning. The following days were spent at various shelters around the city, giving out high fives and finally, collecting peanut butter (the most needed item at shelters). I am extremely happy that I can continue to help out foundation and the great work they do. I can tell that they are just as happy that I am still willing to help them out as well.

My Friend's Co-op Experiences

My friend Sean got the awesome opportunity to work for LiveNation Canada during the co-op term. It was such a great opportunity for him since he comes from an academic music background and is a huge music lover in general. Working as a support to the marketing team he completed a wide variety of tasks and gained a good understanding of corporate life. A major perk of his job was that he received free concert tickets!

My other friend Stephanie chose to spend her co-op term working at Richardson GMP. She spent most of her time doing administrative work but got the opportunity to learn about finance- I find this interesting because I worked the events side, a total contrast to finance. Steph had a great experience and highly recommends Richardson GMP.

Alison also worked at Richardson GMP and was able to gain a lot of insight in the financial industry. Alison and Steph, like Sean received many perks such as free breakfast and "kitchen parties". She also had a really great experience and left the company with only good things to say!

My Co-op Experience

My George Brown Co-op experience was great. I spent it working at the Michael "Pinball" Clemons Foundation. The name is obviously what drew me into applying, I mean come on, the great Pinball whose jersey is mounted in our basement hall of fame! Most of my days at the office revolved around event planning and research, which was something different but also something that I found myself liking. It was great working at a non-profit for my first "real" job, it opened my eyes to a whole different kind of work that didn't really seem like "work" because it was for such a great cause. Tonight I am heading to the annual gala which I spent majority of the co-op term planning for, I am excited to see how all my hard work panned out!
